What Shopify supplier order routing means
Supplier order routing turns an eligible paid retailer order into bounded supplier work. It is not the same as forwarding an entire order email. A routing system must decide at line level which supplier relationship and exact supplier variant owns each quantity.
Short answer: if a retailer order contains five SKUs and only two are mapped to Supplier B, only those two mapped lines are included in B's supplier order. If none are mapped to B, FulfillRelay creates no B order.
A multi-SKU routing example
SKU-1 × 1, SKU-2 × 2, SKU-3 × 1, all on one paid Shopify order.
SKU-1 and SKU-2 map to Supplier B. SKU-3 has no approved B mapping.
B receives only SKU-1 × 1 and SKU-2 × 2. SKU-3 stays out of B's order.
The supplier order uses B's approved catalog variants, current supplier-store price, and currency. The retailer's customer price remains part of the retailer order rather than becoming the supplier settlement price.
One workflow from paid order to tracking
- Verify payment eligibility. Authorization-only, test, outstanding-balance, or mismatched evidence does not route as paid.
- Resolve exact variants and quantities. Every line is checked against an approved supplier mapping.
- Create identifiable supplier orders. Supplier B receives normal work in its own Shopify order surface.
- Accept, fulfill, and return tracking. Supplier actions synchronize back to the retailer workflow without shared credentials.
- Keep exceptions visible. Missing mappings, unavailable quantities, and conflicting fulfillment locations fail closed.
Designed for retailers with existing supplier relationships
You already know your suppliers and need a cleaner operating handoff.
Suppliers use Shopify and should control their own catalog, pricing, and fulfillment.
FulfillRelay does not find suppliers, scrape catalogs, or promise sourcing outcomes.
Shopify supplier routing questions
Can one Shopify order be split between multiple suppliers?
Yes. FulfillRelay evaluates each paid line independently and groups routed lines by supplier relationship. Each supplier receives only the lines mapped to its catalog variants.
What happens to an unmapped SKU?
It is not silently sent to a supplier. The line remains an exception that requires an approved supplier mapping before it can route.
Does a supplier need access to the retailer's Shopify admin?
No. The supplier works from its own Shopify store and receives the bounded order, payment-evidence, fulfillment, tracking, and return information needed for that trading relationship.
Does FulfillRelay mark supplier orders paid manually?
No. Payment status requires matching Shopify checkout and gateway evidence for the supplier-store order. FulfillRelay does not operate a wallet or store card details.
